In 1989, with an unexpected introduction to the music of Sarah Vaughan, Angela Hagenbach decided to focus on music full time. Only a few years before, you might have found this Kansas City native working in the fashion capitals of the world, building a successful career as a professional model. In 1986 Angela returned to her hometown and began to pursue another lifelong interest – music. She joined a gospel choir and quickly became a featured soloist. Still, jazz wasn’t on her agenda, until she heard Sarah singing “Black Coffee.”

One of the top Brazilian jazz singers based in Kansas City, Angela Hagenbach has thus far released two strong recordings on the Amazon label. Hagenbach grew up in a musical family; her father was a saxophonist and her mother a pianist. The seventh of eight children, she played trombone for seven years. She also worked as a model, played keyboards and sang in a top 40 band. In 1989 she discovered Sarah Vaughan and immediately switched to jazz singing. A year later Hagenbach began working regularly as a solo performer at Kansas City’s Ritz-Carlton Hotel. She has also appeared at several musical festivals.
