Kane Allen Brown[1][2] (born October 21, 1993)[3] is an American country singer and songwriter who first came to the attention of the public through social media.[4] He released his first EP, titled Closer, in June 2015 and followed it with a new single, “Used to Love You Sober”, in October 2015. After Brown signed with RCA Nashville in early 2016, the song was included on his EP Chapter 1, released in March 2016. He released his first full-length album, the self-titled Kane Brown, on December 2, 2016. The single “What Ifs” came from this album, and in October 2017, Brown became the first artist to have simultaneous number ones on all five main Billboard country charts.[5] Brown released his second album, Experiment, in November 2018.

Brown was raised in rural northwest Georgia and in the Chattanooga, Tennessee, area.[3][6][7] He is multiracial, with a European-American mother, Tabatha Brown,[8] and an African-American father who is also part Cherokee.[2][9][10] In 2018, he told People he did not know he was biracial until he was 7 or 8 years old: “I thought I was full white… I found out that I was biracial, and I still wasn’t thinking anything of it, but then I started getting called the N-word … I learned what it meant, and that’s when it started affecting me. I got in fights over it when I was little.”[11] His father has been incarcerated since 1996, and he was raised by his single mother.[12]

What is a Booking Agent?

talent agent, or booking agent, is a person who finds jobs for actorsauthorsbroadcast journalistsfilm directorsmusiciansmodelsprofessional athletesscreenwriterswriters, and other professionals in various entertainment or broadcast businesses. In addition, an agent defends, supports and promotes the interest of their clients. Talent agencies specialize, either by creating departments within the agency or developing entire agencies that primarily or wholly represent one specialty. For example, there are modeling agencies, commercial talent agencies, literary agencies, voice-over agencies, broadcast journalist agencies, sports agencies, music agencies and many more.

Having an agent is not required, but does help the artist in getting jobs (concerts, tours, movie scripts, appearances, signings, sport teams, etc.). In many cases, casting directors or other businesses go to talent agencies to find the artists for whom they are looking. The agent is paid a percentage of the star’s earnings (typically 10%). Therefore, agents are sometimes referred to as “10 percenters”. Various regulations govern different types of agents. The regulations are established by artist’s unions and the legal jurisdiction in which the agent operates. There are also professional associations of talent agencies.

Talent agents are considered gatekeepers to their client’s careers. They have the ability to reshape and reconstruct their client’s image. They are dealmakers and assist their client by orchestrating deals within the entertainment industry, more specifically in the Hollywood entertainment industry.

In California, because talent agencies are working with lucrative contracts, the agencies must be licensed under special sections of the California Labor Code, which defines an agent as a “person or corporation who engages in the occupation of procuring, offering, promising, or attempting to procure employment for an artist or artists.
